"Protecting the unborn... supporting the expectant mother..."
- DIRECTOR AS PROMOTER: the director needs to be available to speak to church groups or pastors as they become interested in joining the Gabriel Project
- SIGN DELIVERY PERSON: someone with a truck to deliver signs as they are needed
- MANUAL COPYING PERSON OR COMMITTEE: to continue to put together Pastor and Angel's Training Manuals, using the resources provided initially by the director
- MATERNAL ITEMS ORGANIZER: someone to organize and provide used baby goods, cribs and basic layettes for those in need. This ministry nees to be kept secondary to the emotional and spiritual support of the Gabriel Project.
- ORGANIZATION BY THE DIRECTOR:
--A list of participating churches with contact persons and phone numbers must be kept updated
--A map may be necessary in a large city for the phone volunteers to pinpoint the nearest church to the caller
--A list of emergency housing to be made available to phone volunteers
- VOLUNTEER TRAINING BY DIRECTOR: Phone volunteers need training in taking calls with supporting information on church contacts, maps, generic intake sheets, answering service instructions, the volunteer schedule and the emergency housing list. We also have a Spanish-speaking volunteer who answers calls from those who speak only Spanish.
- DIRECTOR AS EDUCATOR: The "Gabriel Angel", the Christian friend assigned to a pregnant mother to be her spiritual and emotional support in the church community, can be trained minimally regarding the need for prayer and good Christian common sense and values, or more extensively with respect life documents and teachings. As an ecumenical program, we find the minimal approach to be more easily-adjusted to particular churches. Beware of the American inclination to think that only those who have degrees or counseling classes should be qualified to be a Gabriel Angel. The Gabriel Angel is nothing more than the Good Samaritan 2000 years later.
